NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman

I bought NeuroTribes with the hope that I would gain a deeper understanding of the history of a topic that has for years been misunderstood by society, medical professionals, and the families and individuals affected by it.

Although getting through the detailed chapters was difficult at times, I have stepped away having received exactly what I was promised – a clear and profound insight into the unfolding of the awareness of autism, as we understand it today.

If you, for whatever reason, have recently been introduced to the wonderful world of neurodiversity, this book will answer many of the questions you may have, from “Why has it taken this long for me to get a diagnosis?” to “Should I start ABA therapy with my child?” and “What is Asperger’s and how is it related to autism?”.

Although this is a detailed and lengthy read, it is considered a thorough and honest account of the history of autism. You should walk away feeling inspired, motivated to be part of the change, and most of all, hopeful.
