What to read next as recommended by our therapists - When the Body Says No: The Hidden Cost of Stress by Gabor Maté
When the Body Says No: The Hidden Cost of Stress by Gabor Maté
I was first introduced to Gabor Maté reading his book, Scattered Minds (which I can highly recommend for ADHD/ADD reading material), but personally it was his book When the body says No that really spoke to me.
Throughout the chapters Dr. Maté intricately links the dots to the mind-body connection through the use of his own experience as a physician, case studies and scientific research.
The mind-body connection is a connection that we tend to overlook in the days where a prescription follows every ailment. He elucidates the hidden costs of stress, trauma and our emotional life on our physical health.
If you ever wondered if there is something more beyond the purely medical explanations of chronic and serious medical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, cancer, heart problems, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, and irritable bowel syndrome and have the desire to understand the workings of our minds and bodies (connection), this is the book for you.
